Fusion Database Management System

Fusion solves the problem of managing all of your geological data into one common central database. Years of research and development have gone into the design of Fusion to provide a solution for geoscientists to collect, manage and analyse their geological data in the field, in the mine and in the office.

Fusion has been designed so that individual mining and exploration companies can configure their central Fusion geological database to enforce their own specific business rules. This allows confidence in the data for down stream analysis and resource evaluation. The advanced security systems in Fusion allow the users to easy and securely access their data using off the shelf software tools for querying.

From greenfields/browfields exploration to mine production, Fusion manages all drilling, open pit and underground mapping, surface sampling, Quality Assurance / Quality Control, data all in one central database.

Overview

  • Store data in a Single Place
  • Secure Access & Recovery
  • Open Structure (Oracle, MS SQL Server, ODBC)
  • Flexible for any Requirements
  • Drill Hole, Sample & Map Data
  • Automated Replication
  • Create Tables, Columns & Pick Lists
  • Create Users & User Roles & Business Units
  • Advanced Security
  • No Programming
  • Import & Export Data

Check in / Check out

With Fusion, you can take your work with you. This allows the user to copy or check out holes and bring them off the network. The difference between Check out and Copy out is the Copy is just that, a working copy where a Check out, is a work in progress. The hole is actively being added to with the security to ensure more than one person is not editing the hole.

Check in and copy in will take a copy of the work and put it into the central database. If the data is still being worked on locally, the user will Copy in the work to have a backup and allow others to query the data. If the work has been complete the hole is Checked in and now samples can be imported to the central database with either Lab Import or Century LIMS.

Central data store for all geological and costing data including:

  • Drill holes of all types including:
  • Green fields exploration, brown fields exploration, mines exploration, grade control
  • Underground and open pit mapping
  • QA/QC
  • All types of sampling including: geochemical, whole rock, grab, channel, environmental

Central administration

Fusion Administrator provides tools to easily add in tables and columns to the central database. All security, roles and other SQL Server and Oracle administrative functions are set by Fusion Administrator.
The data tables that are in the local database are functionally equivalent to the tables on the central database, this is what allows the error free transfer of data between the central database and local and vice-versa. After database changes are made by Fusion Administrator in the central, Fusion Client manages the changes using Distributed Database Upgrade and updates the local database structure with the same tables and columns on the local database. This keeps the local and central database in sync.
Reference tables are updated using Fusion Administrator on the central database. The changes are Refreshed to the local with the Fusion Client.

Distributed database upgrades
When structural changes are required for logging, mapping, surface sampling the Fusion Administrator connects to the central database and makes these changes.
Once the changes are made, each and every user of Fusion has these changes Distributed down to their local database with Distributed Database Upgrade logic in Fusion Client.

Distributed database upgrades are run in the background upon login to Fusion Client. The complex updates are all run on the local database automatically at this time and updates DHLogger, MineMapper 3D and Sample Station.

Reference / library table updates
When the Fusion Administrator updates and adds reference tables, Fusion Client refreshes these changes to the local database for use in DHLogger, MineMapper 3D and Sample Station.

Enhanced security
The enhanced security within Fusion allows for flexibility in the configuration of the system depending on the clients requirements.
Available Profiles are:

  • Copy in only – typically used where the administrator will verify the holes, and change the status to Checked In.
  • Check in only – Typically used where the administrator will verify the holes, maps and surface samples while making the data available for importing in other data.
  • Copy out only – When user only needs to bring data to the local database for analysis without the ability of updating the data and checking it back in.
  • Check out only – Usually used in conjunction with other profiles such as Check in.

Enhanced security also restricts access to drill holes with Fusion and Querybuilder. This security is controlled by Business Units. If the Project level security is in force, only users within the same business units can access holes in the project. When a drill hole is created by a user with “Allow Data Sharing” not checked, only users within that Business unit can access the drill holes created by users in that Business Unit. For example, if there is an advanced exploration project where they did not want others to see the drill holes and sample results, they would set them into a Business Unit that did not allow for data sharing and the other Business Units would not be able to see the drill holes in the advanced project.
