FAQs About
InTouch
|
| Which computer
operating systems are supported? |
It is recommended you install
InTouch under Microsoft Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP. The version of Windows you run under is not really the
critical issue as far as performance and graphics quality is concerned, the critical
factor is which version of DirectX is installed on your computer and which version can be
supported by your current operating system. For best effect and performance you need
DirectX version 6 or later. InTouch is not
recommended for use under Windows NT. If you are running under Windows 98 and wish to update your version of
DirectX (Windows 98 was originally shipped with DirectX v5) you can download a free update
from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/directx/

| How
is InTouch of use to me in managing the information stored on
my mine's computers? |
You can
link any object in InTouch to any relevant information about
that object anywhere on your computer network. For instance, a
truck or shovel can have all its service records associated
with it and accessed simply by right clicking on that object
on the screen. With InTouchGPS you can track the actual
movement of mobile plant around the mine to ensure optimal
fleet usage at all times. |
| Who is the
program authored by? |
The program is the
latest commercial
implementation of Virtual Reality research being conducted at Nottingham University AIMS
Research Centre. |

| What deals are
offered for universities? |
Significant educational discounts
are offered on all Datamine products. InTouch is an ideal teaching aid as it demonstrates
the very latest in the use of VR technology in mining, and, it's
easy to use. |
| Doesn't
InTouch compete with DATAMINE's own visualization tools? |
No, Datamine's GVP visualizer is
just that, a visualizer. InTouch goes much further both as a presentation
tool and as a full data immersion system. It can use textures
and drape aerial photos. It includes objects such as dozers, graders, vehicles, trees
and men that you can add into the world. You can define multiple viewpoints. And it allows
you to drive around (or fly through) the mine. And much more
than this, you can link any object in InTouch to any relevant
information about that object anywhere on your computer
network. |
| What file
formats are required for importing a terrain surface model? |
Terrain surfaces can be imported
from a variety of general and specific formats. Surfaces can be imported from AutoCAD DXF
and DWG files. Standard Datamine, Surpac and Micromine DTM and wireframe models are also
supported. |
