Travelling North, South, East and West

Written by Dennis Kattowitz, Senior Account Manager

Datamine Australia’s focus in the last quarter has been on account management to gain a better understanding of the daily challenges at your mine site, how you use Datamine software and where the major issues are.

South Australia

Dennis Kattowitz, Senior Account Manager, and Steve Hodgson, Technical Services Manager, visited Toro Energy, Minotaur Exploration and Australian Zircon in Adelaide and surrounding areas.

Queensland

Dennis went on to Brisbane for discussions at The University of Queensland, Pan Australian Resources, Snowden Mining Industry Consultants and Rio Tinto Technical Services, followed by a visit to North Stradbroke Island to see Consolidated Rutile.  If only all mine sites could be in such a beautiful location!

New South Wales

Dennis followed this up with a short flight to Sydney and a drive over the Blue Mountains to Cobar and the CSA Australia operation before travelling back to Sydney via Northparkes Mines in Parkes and Cadia Holding’s Ridgeway Mine near Orange.  In Sydney, he met with The University of NSW, Ord River Resources, Van Dieman Mines and Lewis Mineral Resources.

Victoria

Just for good measure and to make sure that the Victorians did not feel left out, Dennis finished off his trip in Melbourne for meetings with the University of Ballarat, AMC Consultants, St Barbara and Newcrest Mining.

Trip Summary

What is important for all of us within the Datamine Group is to understand not only the areas of frustration but also the areas of “delight” in using Datamine products and services.  Relating frustrations is easily done.  The client makes a phone call or sends an email expressing their “frustration.”  When we talk about delight, we mean where we have provided a service to our clients that satisfies their request completely; and in the case of software, the software has performed according to specification, producing a final result that is quantitative and qualitative.  Rarely do we get an opportunity to hear from clients about the positives and face-to-face meetings provide us with this opportunity.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all the people involved in the site visits for the time that they were able to set aside for these meetings with a particular vote of thanks to the hosts.  We hope that it proved as worthwhile for you as it did for Datamine Australia.  Dennis also plans to follow up this trip with a visit to other Datamine clients in our many other regions during the remainder of 2008.

If you would like to organise a face-to-face meeting with Datamine, contact Dennis.

Strategies to Attract Investors, Avoid Risks, and Meet Deadlines and Budgets

Sponsored by

Datamine is sponsoring this year’s Mine Feasibility Conference.

The conference will present case study perspectives from different mining and exploration companies around the world for implementing effective strategies to avoid risks and developing successful outcomes in the feasibility stage of mining. It will give you the opportunity to brainstorm ideas with peers and expert panelists and network with feasibility professionals.

Come and join us at our workshop co-facilitated with GijimaAST and XempleX on 23 April 2008:

How to Implement Mine Planning and Scheduling Tools

The next generation planning tools for the mining industry link long, medium and short term design and scheduling on a single platform enabling the user to analyse the results in a three-dimensional view and optimise the design. This technology breaks new ground in providing mine operators with key information in producing economically optimised, viable and robust mining scenarios. The ability to have designs, drilling and geological block models in the same database, linked together to generate the life of mine through to the daily plan is seen as a critical part of a mines’ development. This is particularly relevant in today’s market of supply constraint, skills shortages and volatility.

This workshop is intended to showcase:

·          What the mine planning and scheduling technology can achieve

·          How to best capitalise on this technology and optimise your mine strategy

·          How to effectively implement mine planning and scheduling tools on site

·

The workshop will be highly interactive and will discuss the inputs, outputs and functional requirements of tools used in the following stages:
